“Coffee Made Happy” Farmer Training Centre Launch
A Farmer Training Center in Semendo – Muara Enim, Indonesia, was established with the aim to raise smallholders farmers’ incomes through promoting sustainable coffee production and bringing them closer to high value market, assist farmers to meet international certification standards, identify and develop farmers’ financing opportunities, increase quality and productivity of the coffee production in a viable manner, and promote farming methods that will minimize impact on climate change.
The construction of the FTC was supported by the roaster Mondelez International under the new brand starting programme – Coffee Made Happy. The project started in May 2012 by setting up extension and purchasing teams and facilities while the building construction did start by October 2014.
Local government was very happy with the presence of PT Indo Cafco Ecom Group in the area to help in improving capacity of local farmer to increase productivity and quality wishing an increased collaboration and coordination to ensure effective impact. Local government committed to provide relevant support in collaborating with private sector, as the presence of private sector in the region will also help local government to reach their goals to promote Semendo geographic indication. Also mentioned their commitment in targeting 15.000 ha area under coffee through government
funding within 3 years.
